International Refugee
Program LCHR Refugee Protection: Domestic and International Since
1992, the International Refugee Program has had a regional focus on Africa.
Ten years later the continent continues to host a staggering three million
refugees. We are working closely with local partners in both East
Africa and West
Africa to advance practical strategies for refugee protection.
Our particular focus on security
issues across the globe has most recently
examined strategies for addressing security concerns in the context of the
mass population movements and weak government structures in West and Central
Africa. We have also looked at how to address the material needs of refugees,
acutely important in impoverished regions hosting refugees in Africa, through
a human rights framework. We are attempting to bridge the gap between humanitarianism
and human rights approaches to working with refugees. More»
