Director of Development

New York Office

Since 1978, the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights has worked in the U.S. and abroad to create a secure and humane world by advancing justice, human dignity and respect for the rule of law. LCHR supports human rights activists who fight for basic freedoms and peaceful change at the local level; protects refugees in flight from persecution and repression; promotes fair economic practices by creating safeguards for workers' rights; and helps build a strong international system of justice and accountability for the worst human rights crimes.

The Lawyers Committee operates with an annual budget of nearly $7 million, a US-based staff of more than sixty, and is aided by a worldwide network of hundreds of lawyers and others who provide pro bono support.

The Director of Development is responsible for managing a comprehensive development program, guiding the development activities of the Executive Director and Board of Directors, and providing leadership to the accomplished, cohesive development staff.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned development professional capable of devising a creative plan to expand the constituencies of individuals currently giving to the organization, with an emphasis on identifying new individual major donors.

A demonstrable, personal track record of success in garnering major gifts, the necessary experience to significantly broaden the base of support from individuals, and stellar management skills characterize the ideal candidate. It is expected that the Director of Development will lead the organization through the final stages of a highly successful comprehensive campaign.
