Revista De Cuba De Cuba is a publication whose aim is to let the voices of independent journalists be heard inside Cuba and throughout the world. Its hope is that through the words of Cuba’s independent journalists, the voices coming out of Cuba will become more diversified and representative of the population as a whole. The publication of the third edition of De Cuba is remarkable in that many of its staff and writers are currently serving prison sentences for exercising basic rights. Some of these imprisoned independent journalists include Ricardo González Alfonso, Raúl Rivero Castañeda, and Omar Rodríguez Saludes. This edition is also unique in that its focus is on the
March 2003 crackdown and includes interviews with and articles by or about
imprisoned human rights defenders and journalists such as Oscar Espinosa
Chepe, Roberto de Miranda, Manuel Vázquez Portal, and Oscar Elias
Biscet. All of those involved with the publication of De Cuba, in particular
the Association of Independent Journalists Manuel Marquez Sterling and
this issue’s editor Claudia Márquez, have put themselves
at great personal risk in order to see that these voices de Cuba be heard.
Revista De Cuba (en español) De Cuba es una publicación cuya propósito es hacer que las voces de periodistas independientes se escuchen dentro de Cuba y alrededor del mundo. Su esperanza es que mediante las palabras de los periodistas independientes cubanos, las voces que nos llegan desde la Isla sean diversas y representativas de toda la población. La publicación de esta tercera edición de De Cuba derrocha un notable coraje, ya que varios de los columnistas y redactores habituales, como Ricardo González Alfonso, Raúl Rivero Castañeda, y Omar Rodríguez Saludes, están en estos momentos presos por el ejercicio de sus derechos básicos. Esta tercera edición también es única por su enfoque en la ola de represión de marzo de 2003. Entre otros textos, incluye entrevistas y artículos sobre, o escritos por, defensores de derechos humanos y periodistas independientes en prisión tales como Oscar Espinosa Chepe, Roberto de Miranda, Manuel Vázquez Portal y Oscar Elías Biscet. Sin lugar a dudas, todos los que han contribuido a la publicación de esta tercera edición de De Cuba, y en particular la Sociedad de Periodistas Independientes Manuel Márquez Sterling y la editora de esta edición, Claudia Márquez, lo han hecho sabiendo el gran riesgo que a nivel personal ello significa, y con el objetivo de asegurar que las voces de Cuba sean escuchadas.
