Making a Difference
Pro Bono Representation of Refugees
Through the Lawyers Committee for Human Right's Asylum Program,
volunteer lawyers have the unique opportunity to change the
lives of refugees by helping them win asylum in the United States.
Our program's clients have fled from political, religious, ethnic,
and gender-based persecution in countries plagued by human rights
violations. They cannot afford counsel and desperately need
legal representation.
Volunteer lawyers learn about international human rights law
and have the chance to
represent individual clients at an asylum interview or a hearing
before an immigration |

"Working
with
our client, a West African human rights activist, offered me
a window into her culture and a respect for the passion that
drove her to risk her life for her people."
Pro bono lawyer Juliet Stumpf, Morrison
& Foerster (Washington, D.C.)

Program and help persecuted refugees from around the world
seek a safe haven
in the U.S.
"We
have an obligation to ensure these people are given safe haven
so that they can enjoy these freedoms, share their stories,
and continue their struggles. And as a country we should be
grateful to have them; they make a unique contribution to
our national dialogue and enrich our community."
