Savitt Jill Savitt is responsible for the overall communications strategy of the Lawyers Committee. Her role is to supervise our media strategy and oversee our use of a range of other communications tools and tactics to educate the public about human rights and galvanize action. Under her direction, the Lawyers Committee has significantly raised the outreach capacity of the organization and its visibility on critical human rights issues such as the International Criminal Court, U.S. asylum policy and the preservation of civil liberties after September 11. Before joining the Lawyers Committee, Jill ran her own consulting business for five years, where she advised a range of clients on communications strategies. Clients ranged from the American Library Association and the Ford Foundation to the United States Information Agency and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). Before going off on her own, Jill was the communications director at the Ms. Foundation for Women where she ran Take Our Daughters to Work Day and organized the communications efforts of the U.S. women's NGO community at the UN World Conference on Women in Beijing. Jill was also a freelance reporter for the NPR affiliate in Washington, D.C., WAMU. Jill graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University
(1990). She is currently an adjunct lecturer at Columbia University’s
School of International and Public Affairs where she teaches a course
called “Media Strategies for NGOs.” |
