Lorna Davidson
Senior Associate, Human Rights Defenders program
Joined the Lawyers Committee in 2001

Lorna Davidson is responsible for legal research on all aspects of the Human Rights Defenders’ program, and is involved in drafting statements, letters, alerts and other documents as part of advocacy campaigns on behalf of defender cases.

Working with the Project Director and staff from the Lawyers Committee’s program department, Lorna identifies cases that require protection advocacy, gathers information, and determines appropriate strategies. She is also involved in outreach to other human rights organizations and to individuals within the United Nations human rights system.

Before joining the Lawyers Committee, Lorna worked at the United Nations war crimes tribunal at The Hague, and as a legal researcher and director of projects to investigate violations of international humanitarian law committed in Kosovo.

Lorna holds a Law Degree from the University of Glasgow, Scotland (with Honors in International Law, 1995), a Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge, England (specialized in International Law, 1996), and a Master of Law from Columbia University Law School (2001). She continues to be enrolled at Columbia Law School as a doctoral candidate, focusing her research on legal theory, human rights and the laws of war. While at Columbia, she taught classes on human rights advocacy and worked as assistant to Professor Louis Henkin, in his capacity as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee.
